Youth Girls – Match Report (13th July, 2014)

By Coach Damien and Manager David.

Today we played a home game at Ormond against East Sandringham. Vicki was today’s captain and the pregame address focused on work ethic.

I asked the girls for a consistent effort throughout the whole game. The girls started quite well, we were very competitive in the first quarter but unfortunately we let sandringham kick 2 easy goals and we were not able to convert our chances  in front of goal, Vicki, Nicola, Imo, Jessica, Ella, Kelly and Caely all performed very well.

Sharks 0-1 v East Sandringham 3-1

In the second quarter the girls responded brilliantly, we were very competitive for the whole  quarter, everybody played their role well and we got back into the game. As usual Jessica led the way with two great goals. Nicola, Caely, Vicki, Lara and Maddie A all performed very well.

Sharks 2-3 v East Sandringham 5-5

The Third quarter was a very tight contest, we held Sandringham to 1 goal and unfortunately we were not able to score ourselves but it was a good even contribution by all the girls. Caely, Mia,Lara and Ella all performed very well.

Sharks 2-3 v East Sandringham 6-5

The last quarter began very well the girls maintained their competitiveness and we were unlucky not to score more goals. Our teamwork was very good and Marnie  kicked a fantastic goal to finish off some great work from the girls. But we ran out of energy towards the last half of the quarter and East Sandringham kicked four straight goals to seal the game. Mia, Nicola, Chloe, Jessica and Marnie  all played very well.

Sharks 3-5-23 v East Sandringham 10-5-65

Overall I was very happy with the way all the girls gave a great effort for most of the game today we just need to try to maintain that level of effort for the whole game to be successful. If we continue to play this well we CAN make the finals, all the girls have improved remarkably and it is a credit to them and the hard work they have put in all year.

WELL DONE GIRLS!

The Trampoline awards went to Mia and Chloe
The Grilled award went to Lara
Thank you to Mel for umpiring and to David and Braham and Matt as well as all the helpers and volunteers.

Once again thanks go to:

Hernan – for supplying a large quantity of oranges for the girls at 1/2 time & 3/4 time and enough left-overs for the parents to also enjoy.
Daniel – for umpires escort and for ensuring our club umpire (Mel) was well protected.
Bruce – as usual our ever reliable goal umpire.
Saffron – her debut performance as the timekeeper and ensured the match run on time. Pleasing to see that she saw her daughter Marnie kick her 1st goal.
Alison – our trainer whose assistance was called on twice during the game and ensured Ella & Chloe were taken care of after copping a ball and elbow to the nose & face.
Matthew – our runner whose running out the messages were delivered promptly to the girls.
Ryan & Jeremy – both boys shared the water carrier duties and ensured the girls were kept hydrated.
Mel – our club umpire who did a marvellous job umpiring the game when the assigned SMJFL umpire failed to show up.
Braham –  our valuable assistant coach whose knowledge of the game is under-estimated.

Melissa – for taking the individual girls photos prior to the match. (for the girls who were u/a today your photo will be taken at next weeks game and also hopefully we have all 17 girls available next week so then we can take a team photo shot).

And finally to all the parents who attended supporting the girls, your presence is greatly appreciated.

See you all at training on Wednesday night and enjoy going back to school tomorrow girls!!
