Round 9 (Match Report)

Leesa Catto | 18 July 2014

With our Premier Division team having the bye in Rd 9, it was the perfect opportunity for our
Division 1 side to take centre stage as they took on the Cranbourne Eagles at home.

After our loss to Melbourne Uni we relinquished top spot on the ladder and we were up against the 5th placed Eagles. We knew this wouldn’t be an easy match and we went in to the game committed to play 4 quarters of tough, hard, and united footy.

We started well with plenty of inside 50’s, and we kicked 2.4 for the quarter to take an 8 point lead into the first change. Our accuracy was again an issue as we
had 6 shots at goal, managing just the 2 goals while Cranbourne kicked 1.

In the second quarter the Eagles struck back, kicking 2 goals to our 1 to cut our lead to just 3 points at the main break.

In the 3rd quarter we were able to play the game on our terms, kicking 5.1 for the quarter while restricting the Eagles to 1.1.

Coach Marnie told stkildasharks.com that she was pleased with the third quarter,

“Our third quarter ensured that we were able to completely shut down some opposition players and take control of the game,” she said.

The last quarter was hard work and we didn’t let up, kicking 1.2 while holding Cranbourne scoreless to run out 35 point winners.

Coach Marnie spoke of a pleasing performance,

“A fantastic performance by the Sharks on the weekend she said.

We were able to convert on the scoreboard and play an attacking style of football with lots of run and composure.

A good confidence booster as we head closer toward finals.”

Nic Taylor, Gracie V and Drewy all kicked 2 each with Sars, Alex and Big Rach our best players.

Melbourne Uni were beaten by Eastern Devils in Rd 9 so our win propelled us back into top spot with just 5 rounds left in the 2014 home and away season.
