AFLW Round 1 – Sharks Wrap Up

Here’s our Sharks wrap up from the historic first round of the AFL Women’s competition.

Carlton vs Collingwood

Brianna Davey starred for the Blues and led all disposal getters with 26, she was 9 clear of the next closest player (Jakobsson) on 17 and also added a goal.

Tilly Lucas-Rodd kicked a point, had 9 disposals and added 5 tackles.

Alison Brown debuted for the Blues after being selected as a free agent and showed great signs. Definitely a player to keep an eye on in the coming years. 5 disposals.

Brittany Bonnici was fearless in the Collingwood midfield and had a game high 9 tackles to go with her 8 disposals.

Moana Hope was starved of opportunities and well held by the relentless Carlton defense.

Jasmine Garner stamped her name in the history books when she booted the first ever goal in the AFLW competition. Jassy had 3 marks, 3 tackles and 7 disposals.

GWS vs Adelaide

Phoebe McWilliams had 10 disposals, 4 marks, 2 tackles and booted the only Giants goal stamping her name in the GWS record book.

Western Bulldogs

Jess Gardner took a huge hit from Ebony Antonio, but bounced back up and set up a Katie Brennan goal for the Doggies. She had 9 disposals and 6 tackles.

Laura Bailey had 4 disposals and laid a tackle.

Bec Neaves had 8 disposals and 3 tackles.

Melbourne vs Brisbane

The weather made life tough for our Dees players. Lightning forced the umpires to suspend the game for fifteen minutes and when play resumed the Lions ran away with the win. Mia-Rae Clifford registered 1 disposal and Meg Downie had 11 touches.
