11 Sharks to feature in NAB AFL Women’s league in 2017

The NAB AFL women’s draft was held October 12th in the Docklands and seven of our Sharks players were drafted and will now join previously announced recruits Brianna Davey, Phoebe Mcwilliams and Moana Hope in the AFL Women’s league in 2017.

Here’s a little bit of information on all of our players that will be participating in next years competition.

Brianna Davey (Carlton – Marquee Selection)

* Joined the Sharks in 2015

* Carlton Marquee selection

* St Kilda Sharks best and fairest winner 2015 and 2016

* Runner-up in the league best and fairest in 2016

* Represented Western Bulldogs previously in AFL exhibition matches

Jasmine Garner (Collingwood – pick 86)

* Joined the Sharks in 2013

* 2013 St Kilda Sharks best and fairest winner and 2015 runner-up

* Victorian representative who has been named All-Australian

* Represented Melbourne in the first ever AFL women’s match in 2013

Brittany Bonnici (Collingwood – pick 27)

* Captained the Youth Girls Victorian side and was named All-Australian

* Represented Melbourne in the first ever televised AFL Women’s exhibition match

* 2015 St Kilda Sharks Penny Cula-Reid – Club rising star

Laura Bailey (Western Bulldogs – pick 143)

* Joined the Sharks in 2015

* Has a basketball background and played previously in Geelong

Tilly Lucas-Rodd (Carlton – pick 99)

* Joined the Sharks in 2015

* Youth Girls Victorian representative

* Only in her second year of senior football

Penny Cula-Reid (Collingwood – pick 102)

* Joined the Sharks in 2004

* St Kilda Sharks club captain and best and fairest in 2012

* Pioneer of the game

* Victorian representative who has been named All-Australian

* Represented both the Western Bulldogs and Melbourne previous AFL Women’s exhibition games.

Mia-Rae Clifford (Melbourne – pick 89)

* Joined the Sharks in 2013

* Relatively new to the game. Tough as nails defender who has quickly become one of the Sharks most consistent and reliable players.

Phoebe McWilliams (Greater Western Sydney Giants – Priority Selection)

* Joined the Sharks in 2006

* Victorian representative who has been named All-Australian

* Represented both Melbourne and the Western Bulldogs in previous AFL exhibition matches

* 2009 & 2010 St Kilda Sharks best and fairest.

Jess Gardner (Western Bulldogs – pick 131)

* Joined the Sharks in 2012 after playing representative basketball with Sandringham.

* Relatively new to the game. Sneaky forward who spent time in the middle and on the wing for the Sharks in 2016.

Moana Hope (Collingwood – Marquee Selection)

* Joined the Sharks in 2014

* Victorian representative who has been named All-Australian

* 2014 St Kilda Sharks best and fairest and 2016 runner-up

* St Kilda Sharks and league leading goal kicker (2014, 2015 and 2016)

* Collingwood Marquee selection

Alison Brown (Carlton – Free Agency selection)

* Joined the Sharks in 2016

* Played representative Basketball with Sandringham before joining the Sharks

* Has played just 9 games of football
