After a few weeks on the road, the Sharks were back at home in Round 7 with our Youth Girls team playing first. It was great to see the youthies record a terrific win to set the tone for the day. Well done girls!

After a few weeks on the road, the Sharks were back at home in Round 7 to take on a Bendigo side still searching for its first win of 2014. The Thunder who were promoted to Premier Division in 2014 after winning back to back flags in the North West Division in 2012 and 2013 are a very committed and united team. We knew that this wouldn’t be a game to take lightly.
We got off to a great start, kicking 10 goals in the first quarter with the wind and by half time we had recorded 30 scoring shots after kicking 13 goals against the wind in the second quarter. Bendigo continued to work hard and they were duly rewarded as Letisha Stewart slotted through a lovely goal from 40 metres out on a tight angle.
The third quarter saw us add 9 goals and at ¾ time Lloyd urged the team to run, run, run and maintain the momentum. Tough windy conditions were challenging and the girls finished the game with 8 goals to take our score for the game to 40.18, registering 58 scoring shots.
Surely this must rank as the Sharks highest score ever?
In terrific signs, we finished with 14 individual goal kickers. Mo Hope was rushed to hospital post game with leather poisoning as she racked up 14 goals and hit the post at least 3 times. Mo is leading the VWFL goal kicking having now kicked 36 goals in her 6 games this season, terrific stuff Mo. Great work by Amy JC also up forward as well as she booted 6.
Jenna Bruton who was named as our best player was terrific all day with her great run and excellent ball use.
So all in all it was a terrific win.
We’re at the half way mark of the season, we’ve seen plenty of improvement since Rd 1 and we’ve got a LOT of improvement to go.

Our Division 1 team took on Knox in Kez Prez’s 100th game. Whilst Knox are new to the VWFL in 2014 they have a very strong side, having recruited a number of Scoresby players. Scoresby won the VWFL’s South East Division in 2008, 2009 & 2013.
The game was a tight tussle with Knox leading the Sharks by 5 points at half time. We had kicked 1.6 to half time, so 7 scoring shots for just 1 goal. In the third quarter we managed to kick 3 goals while holding Knox scoreless, taking a 19 point lead into the last quarter.
The final term was a struggle as we were a player down for the quarter. Knox pushed hard, kicking 3.2 for the quarter and we didn’t add a goal. We managed 3 behinds to run out 2 point winners. So we had 17 scoring shots to 10 for the game.
Goal kicking practice is on the agenda.
Nikki Liston and Rachel Achampong were terrific all day and this win sees us 1 game clear on top of the ladder at the half way mark of the season.
Two good wins. There is plenty to like about what we’re doing and plenty more to improve on. Keep working hard Sharks.
